How to remember new words: 5 methods that work
Why words slip out of your head, and how to make them stick — with examples from our lessons.
Learned 20 words and remember five a week later? That’s normal. Our brains keep what we use. Here’s how to help.
1. Words in sentences
Not “apple — яблуко” but I eat an apple every morning. Context helps you recall the word when you need it.
2. Movement and games
In our lessons, children pass a ball and say a new word. When the body joins in, words stick faster.
3. Spaced repetition
Review a word today, tomorrow, in three days and in a week. Apps like Anki do this automatically.
4. Say it out loud
Reading isn’t enough. Say the word, make a sentence with it, tell a friend something.
5. Less, but regularly
Five words a day beats 35 on a Sunday evening.
